Julia (Julia Kijowska) and Piotr (Piotr Borowski)
are an affluent middle-class couple who have
been looking forward to taking an all-inclusive
holiday. Their plans come to an abrupt end
when Piotr’s mother asks them to bring home
her displaced father who has been living in a
refugee camp on the Greek-Macedonian border.
As they make the 2000-kilometre trip to the
Balkans, the couple are increasingly pushed
out of their comfort zone as they are forced
to reflect on the cosy bubble that they live in.
Via Carpatia is the directors’ debut and was
nominated at three film festivals last year
