The dystopian surrealist painter Zdzisław Beksiński (Andrzej Seweryn) had a remarkable gift for a man without any formal training as an artist. His son Tomasz (David Ogrodnik) was a troubled yet popular radio presenter, music journalist and film translator; he had a life-long marriage to his wife Zofia (Aleksandra Konieczna). Unfortunately, the Beksiński family’s story was also peppered with tragedy. The Last Family shows 28 years of their ups and downs, touching on Zdzisław’s obsession with video-recording every waking moment of his family’s existence. The biopic won 29 awards altogether, including prizes at the Polish Film Festival, Camerimage, and Locarno International Film Festival.
