An electronics corporation sends Pilot Pirx (Sergei Desnitsky) on a secret test flight around Saturn, where he commands a mixed group of humans and androids. Pirx soon discovers an ulterior motive for the mission – to test the androids’ capabilities with the hope that they will ultimately replace human astronauts. After a near-fatal crisis, Pirx’s human wits are pitted against those of the near-perfect machines. This adaptation of Lem’s short story The Inquest is a thought-provoking sci-fi thriller featuring an edgy, percussive score by Estonian composer Arvö Part.
