In 1946, a Polish Home Army soldier is shot by the secret police of the new communist regime, who repeatedly desecrate the grave of the deceased. The soldier’s parents, Hanka (Grażyna Błęcka-Kolska) and Jakub (Jan Jankowski), decide to take their son’s body on a 500-kilometre journey to a proper burial. Told from the perspective of the grandson, this trip through post-war Poland exposes both the emergent scars of a fractured country and the steadfast bravery of two mourning parents. Pardon took home three Golden Lions at the Polish Film Festival.
