In Poland’s early postwar, pianist and musicologist Wiktor (Tomasz Kot) puts together a choral ensemble of traditional folk performers, including the enigmatically unruly Zula (Joanna Kulig). Over the next two decades, a stormy love affair ebbs and flows between the two, set against the black-andwhite backdrop of two oppositional Europes in Poland and France. A tragic romance, full of gorgeously understated sensuality, melancholy musical numbers and spine-tingling humanity. Cold War netted the Palme d’Or and Best Director awards at Cannes. Screening will be introduced by Paweł Pawlikowski.
